recording audio using a usb mic

I have used Audacity for a while now and have had great success. Today though I have had a lot of trouble recording. The sound is clipping when recording and I can’t seem to limit the recording level enough to prevent this from happening. I dropped the db level on the mic, but that doesn’t seem to make enough difference.

Also I used to be able to see the recording & playback levels, but now this is not showing up on Audacity.

Can someone give me some guidance?

Go to View > Toolbars and check/tick the Meter Toolbar option

I just looked at my Audacity program and the option for View / Toolbar / Meter Toolbar does not exist anymore. I have Audacity 1.2.6.

What do you think I can do?

In 1.2.x try View > Dock Meter Toolbar

or go to the Interface tab of Preferences and check Enable Meter Toolbar

what mic are you using? I bought a M-Audio Producer USB mic and I’m finding it a challenge.
