I am somewhat new to audacity and am needing to record some voice over projects, and am in desperate need of some help. Here is what I am working with.

Audacity 2.0.5
External Mic
Creative X-FI SoundBlaster Sound Card
I am able to record in audacity, with my external mic, without my soundcard. When I insert my external soundcard, I am not able to record. Does anyone know what settings I should select for recording and playback when using my soundcard? Or any other advice as to what I am doing wrong? I would really appreciate your help.
If by “insert” you mean that the SoundBlaster is a USB device, Audacity won’t see it if you connect it while Audacity is open. In that case, restart Audacity or use Transport > Rescan Audio Devices. Then select the devices you want for playback and recording in Device Toolbar .
Are you saying that you only want to use the external microphone plugged into the computer (you don’t want to connect the microphone to SoundBlaster), and that connecting SoundBlaster and rescanning devices in Audacity produces an error when you select the microphone as the recording device?
If so, what is the make and model number of the microphone?
