Recording a PC Language Course [SOLVED]

I have a Spanish language program on my PC. I’d like to record some of the lessons that I keep forgetting so I can put them on a CD and listen to them while driving. Is there a way to set up Audacity so I can start recording, go to my Spanish lessons and play the problem lessons so they will be recording while I play them on the PC?

I’m using Win 8.1
Thanks for any help

Recording what’s playing on the computer should do it.

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer.html

That will only give you the recording, not the CD. After you finish recording and File > Export the WAV (Microsoft) sound file (not MP3), you need to drop the file into your CD authoring program for burning.

Audacity won’t burn anything.

I tried MME and MicrosoftDirect but still no recording. If I put it on Microphone it will record what’s in the room. I had it working once but I can’t find the combination of settings to make it work again

Try the WASAPI loopback method described here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html
(requires a recent version of Audacity, preferably the current 2.1.1 version: http://web.audacityteam.org/download/

okay, let me try to give you more info: I’m using Win 10 and Audacity 2.1.1
The first time I tried this it worked fine. I don’t now want happened.
If I use Wasapi I get a buzzing over the voice I’m recording (NEWS flash: I just turned off the check on Software Playthrough and it appears to work now. The buzzing is gone too)

If I use MME it still uses the microphone
If I use Windows Direct I get an echo of the voice I’m recording and slight feedback

I’m VERY mush a novice at this, sorry
I appreciate and help

As it says near the top of http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_recording_computer_playback_on_windows.html, Software Playthrough should be off for recording computer playback by any method.

If you use those hosts you must have a stereo mix or wave out input to choose from.

There is no advantage to using stereo mix (even if you have it), unless it is essential you can directly control the achieved recording level. You may not be able to directly control that level using WASAPI loopback.

I’m having the same problem again. It won’t record. I’m using Win 10 and Audacity 2.1.1

It was working for a while. I don’t know what’s changed. I have MME, Microphone(Reltek High, 2(Stereo) Record, Speakers(Reltek High

I click on the Record button, Alt + Tab to the Spanish lesson, and play the lesson but nothing records.

I looked at the on line manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tu … puter.html - and I think I have everything set the same.

I don’t know what that means. Sorry

Thanks

  1. In the first (Host) box of Device Toolbar, choose “Windows WASAPI”.
  2. In the second (Recording Device) box, choose “Speakers (Realtek High) (loopback)” .
  3. In the third (Recording Channels) box, choose mono or stereo. If mono causes an error, try stereo.
  4. In the fourth (Playback Device) box, choose “Speakers (Realtek High)”
  5. Start playing the audio you want to record.
  6. Press the big red Record button in Audacity.

Thank you, thank you , thank you. That worked. I was sure I tried that combination, but obviously I didn’t. I cut and pasted your instructions into an MS Word file so I’ll have it next time I screw up.

Thanks again
