Hello. I’ve recently downloaded Audacity and I’m planning on using it for a new Podcast. I’m trying for something that sounds like the original Season 1 intro to the TV Show WKRP in Cincinnati where the radio is being tuned and every few seconds pics up a station…..I am going to supply the words on my recording but I’m trying to recreate that really realistic static and tuning like on that show……I’ve researched and tried several setting on Audacity but can’t seem to get anything that’s even close to that….I appreciate any help and I’m trying to read a lot in the forums, and tutorial’s to get up to speed. Thanks
Try to find a sound effect that you can download. I don’t remember that from the show but it should be a common effect.
A quick search found this.
…Or, if you have a radio or stereo that you can record from, you record the real thing!
When the theme tune starts there’s a ~3 second crossfade between the AM radio version and the hi-fi version.
That was a fun show! TV has changed… Maybe we’ve changed… I don’t watch sit-coms anymore.
IMO - The good thing about the old days with only a few channels was that we all watched the same shows. There was usually only one “good show” on at a time. So, we’d go to school or work and talk about what we’d all seen. I feel like it held the common-culture together. I’m not saying there was much “culture” in “The Vast Wasteland”. ![]()
That phrase was used by the FCC Charman in 1961 and I was too young to have heard it from him, but I’ve heard it repeated. The funny thing is his name was Newton Minow. And I do remember the SS Minow from Gilligan’s Island. So that was either a poke at Chairman Minow, or a poke at themselves.
Oh… I don’t want to imply that "Gilligan’s Island* was a “good show”. It was dumb but I think everybody watched it and we know all of the characters and we knew they’d never get rescued. …Just like Oak Island where I think they’ll never find the treasure but they tease you every episode! ![]()
I certainly did when I was a kid. All play stopped for that. Same deal for ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’.
This is excellent….thank you so much.
