Record audio into an empty section created with Split-Delete?

Hi, I’m on openSUSE Tumbleweed (latest rolling release), with Audacity 2.3.1 from the official openSUSE packages.

Am I missing something? When I use the Split-Delete tool on a segment of audio and put the cursor in the blank space and hit record, it still records at the end of that track. I would like to record directly into the blank space without creating another track and copy/paste/moving.

Is this possible? Thanks a lot.

No it’s not. Recordings can only be made at, or beyond the end of the track.

OK, thanks for confirming.

But you can record on a new track to record from the position you require:
a) place cursor at required start point
b) Press Shift + Record

You can then mix the two tracks if required.
