Recognising USB microphone

Hi everyone,

I also have a query about sound and my computer. At the moment Audacity only seems to recognize and record sound coming from within my computer - youtube for example. It won’t pick up my own audio from outside using my standard computer mike. What’s likely to be the problem?

What do you mean by a “standard computer mike”?
Do you mean a “USB microphone” (as in the topic title), or a microphone that plugs into the computer’s “mic” socket, or a laptop’s built in microphone, or something else?
