Recodring sound output on an M4 Macintosh

Just got a nice new M4 iMac. Downloaded latest Audacity. Now I need to arrange for it to record sound from the computer. I used to use Soundflower for this, but that’s now dead, so I tried iShowUAudio. That refuses to install. I could use a loopback cable, but I’d need a Thunderbolt adaptor, since the machine has no other audio input, and there would be some loss of quality by going through the analogue domain.

Anybody got a solution for this?

BlackHole, from Existential Audio, works with the newer macOS versions. I use it on an Intel MacBook Air.

Thanks a lot. That appears to install correctly. When I select Blackhole as the output device in Settings>Sound the sound goes off, and if I then select Blackhole (2Ch) as input, I can see the level indicator moving, so Blackhole appears to be working. I can select Blackhole as the input in Audacity, but nothing comes through.

A bit more info. Blackhole is certainly working, as I can record sound from it using Quicktime Player. So the problem lies with Audacity.

Blackhole has instructions for using it with Audacity.
