Recent glitches on playback

I have used Audacity for a long time and have no problems with it

Today, when I play back tracks I have imported, it has started to glitch on playback. This has never happened before

When I export the mix and listen to the MP3/WAV there are no glitches

I only get these glitches when I listen in Audacity, and they don’t seem to always be in the same place

Has something happened today to Windows, to Audacity or to me?

Using Audacity 2.3.3

I’ve tried with and without headphones, and switched computer off and on

Still getting glitches when I listen to playback on Audacity, but no glitches when I export the mix and listen through VLC or other media players

Is Audacity displaying the track in the normal “Waveform” view?
Have you customised any audio settings?
What anti-virus / security products do you use?

Not that I know of. As far as I know everything is as normal - I’ve used Audacity for several years now and haven’t come across this issue before

What anti-virus / security products do you use?
Avast. But I’ve used this for a long time, so unless a new version is interfering some how I think everything is as is has always been

Try resetting Audacity’s Preferences, just in case you’ve accidentally changed something there. The easiest way to do that is to reinstall Audacity over the top of your current installation, and look for the option to “Reset Preferences” during the installation process. On first run after installing you should be asked to confirm that you want to reset preferences.

Thanks Steve, I’ll give it a go

I was wondering if there is some cache problem. Not that I understand how that would apply to Audacity, but it’s getting worse, more glitches are appearing and more frequently (but not in the same place so probably not a problem with the actual tracks)
