Realtek-Loopback: Error -9996 if recording to Mono

Hello,

as I found out, Audacity 3.0.4 seems to have a problem if

  • using Windows 10x64 (current release: 21H2?)
  • Audacity 3.0.4
  • Realtek Loopback
  • Stereo vs. Mono

I try to record the loopback sound into a mono track. Then there is a unknown device (Error -9996) by Audacity.

However if I change my record to stereo, then everything proceeds as usual…

Is there anything I might change somewhere between Windows 10 and Audacity 3? Since I do some academic work I only need the audio information, so stereo is too much data…

Kind regards,

The easiest solution is to record in stereo and then convert to mono.
There are several ways to convert a stereo recording to mono - the “best” way depends on what you are recording (you haven’t told us that).

Hi Steve,
thanks for your answer.
Then I will go the extra mile from stereo to mono (I hoped that I could avoid this by a small change in the settings).
I have to record small portions of audio streams for the sake of correct citation…
Kind regards,
