Real-Time Guitar Tracking In Audacity? Nad IR?

So, what I’m trying to do is pretty simple - Just wanna track my guitar straight into Audacity with some distortion. I heard I need a “Realtime” amp plugin/ sim/ ir loader to achieve this, so I download “Nad IR,” but for some reason it’s not working - I’m only able to hear my guitar as the clean DI signal when I’m going in, and not as though it were “being played through an amp” if that makes any sense.

I’ve actually never had any luck getting Nad IR to work in any other DAW, so if anyone has any suggestions for how I can achieve the simple task of tracking my guitar into audacity with some distortion, essentially, please chime in. Not married to any specific plugin or anything.

Thanks.

It MIGHT work after recording even if it doesn’t work in real time.

Not all 3rd plug-ins work in Audacity and host support is technically up to the plug-in developer. Most commercial plug-ins give you a list of officially supported hosts. Audacity is rarely officially supported but sometimes they still work. With free plug-ins is usually just hit-or-miss.

…There are LOTs of amp sims and you should be able to find SOMETHING that works in Audacity, but maybe not in real time.
