Split from https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/error-cant-find-project-data-folder-solved/24066/5
I’m having the same problem. Ive been through all these forums and manuals and they all seem to point to the data folder and the project file being in the same folder… I’ve done this… still doesn’t work… I haven’t renamed anything. i even tried the suggestion of a previous poster who’s project file mysteriously opened after dragging one into the other and back out again. This didn’t work either… is there a number i can call or something? I’m using Windows 10.
Oh and i forgot to mention that im using Audacity 2.1.0
You are not on MacOS as the topic poster was, so I split this and the previous two posts to a new topic.
There is no support by telephone.
Please start by telling us your Audacity version (all three numbers, see the pink panel at the top of the page).
Then tell us the exact error messages Audacity gives you, word for word.
Yes the project’s _data folder must be in the same folder as the AUP file of the same name. The AUP file must not be in the _data folder.
Open the AUP file with File > Open… not File > Import > Audio… .
See Managing Audacity Projects for more information.

It is not too old, but it is still old. We recommend the current Audacity 2.1.2 from http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows.
