Random Audio Spikes and Silencing

I have an audacity project and I was working on it and everything was just fine. The recording was fine, and everything was going pretty smoothly. I saved the project and turned off my computer.

The next day, I turned on my computer and opened the project. When playing the audio there were silenced spots all over the place and sometimes the audio would spike up all the way. This was not my headphones.

I zoomed in on the tracks and there were spots where it would show that the audio was silenced or spiked up, but when I zoomed out the audio would show as normal.

Please tell me what happened to my audacity project between turning off my computer and turning it back on.

Update: Now it’s doing it whenever it feels like it

Great I’ve figured out it has nothing to do with my computer restarting it has to do with literally SAVING THE PROJECT FILE to make everything go wrong. Please can someone help me troubleshoot this?

This sounds like a weird problem.
Are you using cloud storage?

I’m just saving the files to my computer in the Audacity section under Program Files (x86). The folder automatically came with the program.

Don’t save projects or files there. The “Program Files (x86)” folder is for programs only, not data.
Try saving in the “Documents” folder, or a sub-directory of the “Documents” folder.
