Pure Buss Audio

This is a general question about Audacity and where the windows 10 audio signal comes from.

When I use Audacity to record live audio on my desktop (not microphone) it seems that Audacity is seeing audio downstream from any system volume control, eq, etc. I know this because the recording level in Audacity changes with the system volume / tone controls. So this is probably normal but I am wondering if there is a way to setup Audacity so that it sees audio straight off the buss before it goes to any system volume / tone controls?

I think this is possible somehow as I have a device made by Audio Engine that takes the signal straight off the buss (USB) and then sends it to my home theater system (in this case).

So how do I get Audacity to do the same?

I believe the special driver method does not go through the sound card.
