PUNCHING IN still a bit archaic? Waveform changing when MERGING TRX?

I’m curious if there is a more “elegant way” to “punch in” yet. Somewhat frustrating when you have a great take except for a few notes and you have to do the whole zooming in and cutting and splicing thing. Would be much easier if one could just record onto the same track. The bpm label maker plug-in makes this task MUUUUCH easier, but of course, isn’t ideal…

Also, I’m noticing that sometimes the waveform changes when I merge the spliced tracks. Not cool… It makes a difference in the playback result as well, which is why I stopped actually merging the tracks…

If these two things could get fixed I would consider audacity a very viable solution for any serious tracking/ recording project. However, I do consider these two thing serious drawbacks…
