I’m using Audacity 2.3.3 with Windows 10. The first few times using punch and roll it worked as it should. Lately it’s been freezing. I make a mistake, hit the space bar, set the cursor, then shift-d. The play cursor goes back 5 seconds and freezes there. The program shows that its recording but just sits there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I now notice that I can’t record a second track. Shift-R brings the second track on screen but again the cursor just sits there and doesn’t record. Please help.
Check in the Windows Sound settings that the recording device, and the playback device that you are using, are both set to the same sample rate.
Also ensure that other audio applications are not running, even in the background (voip applications such as Skype are notorious for grabbing exclusive control of the sound system).
Update.
Along with these problems I was also having an issue with the gain on my recordings. Everything needed to be almost maxed to have a good recording level. I ended up switching out my Lexicon Omega audio interface with my Mackie ProFX12 mixer and so far haven’t had any issues. Thank you for your help.
