Problems when importing audio file

When I try importing an audio file to Audacity (in wma format), the file that is supposed to be approx. 5.5 minutes long is automatically de-compressed into a length of about .2 seconds.
Any idea why this may be happening?

Because Audacity does not support that format.

Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC in 1.3.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

  1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

  2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.

If you’re on Windows, then there’s a free format converter called SUPER that can do it: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
