Problems exporting mp3

Hello all,

I’m using the latest version of Audacity (3.4.1 at the time of this writing.)

First, for the developers, FWIW, I much preferred the prior version of how it worked to save/export, where it went right into the Browse mode without having to make an additional click. One reason is that I record something every day with the same filename except just changing the date. (Actually issue would be the same if I just recorded over the file.) In Browse, I can just click on an existing file and populate the name field and then edit it (or not). Also, it’s easier to choose “export selection” from drop-down under File than to click the radio buttons in the new setup. I sure hope you will return the file saving process to what it was before.

Second, I have had frequent problems with the new version not adding .mp3 on to the file name so in File Explorer it will show up as “FileName” rather than “FileName.mp3” and the system doesn’t know what type of file it is. I can then rename the file to add .mp3 and it works but of course that shouldn’t be necessary.

Any help much appreciated.

Best,
Ross in Denver

I believe it’s still the current wisdom to back out to Audacity 3.3.3. Do you keep the older installers?

Audacity 3.4.2 will arrive shortly and it’s not the worst idea to hang on 3.3.3 until you see by inspecting the forum over time that most of the errors have been addressed.

Yes! And I actually did just that shortly after posting my comment.

And I’ll probably stick with 3.3.3 unless they change the process for exporting audio and “selected audio” even if they fix the thing with the .mp3 not being added to the file name.
