Problem recording

I got a USB cassette capture for my birthday and it has so far recorded and converted a couple of pre recorded tapes fine.

It doesn’t seem to pick up sound when I am trying to do old compilation tapes I have, that I recorded from different albums. Flat line across and although I can hear it playing in the headphones from the player, it doesn’t pick up/record the sound or play it back.

Curious to know what I am doing wrong.Any suggestions of settings I need to adjust?

Do you have your receipt? You wouldn’t be the only person to have trouble with the interface on these units.
