Problem recording. Red triangles on Timeline.

Windows 10
Audacity 2.3.3

Trying to record but get two red triangles on timeline and Audacity just freezes. No error messages or clues. I’ve checked and it would seem a number of people have raised this issue in the past and I’ve been unable to find a resolution. Have tried reloading 2.3.3 but has no effect.

I’ve looked at the FAQ’s and can find no answers.

Can anyone help please. Audacity has been just fine up until yesterday.

Many thanks for any assistance.

  1. Are you using WASAPI as your host in the Device toolbar ?
  2. are you using loopback as your recording device?
  3. are you trying to record audio playing on your computer ?
  4. Is the audio actually playing

If you are using WASAPI/loopback then when there is no signal Audacity will not record.

Thanks, I hate it when this happens because when trying to record today - absolutely perfect yet I’ve touched nothing.
I was using WASAPI, No loopback and recording from computer.

When I tried to record it, froze with the two red triangles on the timeline. Then it would make a loud low frequency humming noise and the time line would show a dark waveform with a lighter solid waveform inside it. No matter what I tried I couldn’t get it to record.

However, at the moment it seems fine. I’ll monitor and report back if it does it again. Weird?

Thanks for your assistance. Much appreciated.

Hi

I have EXACTLY this issue with the red triangles, nothing recording, everything freezes and then struggle to close.

I’ve changed/added nothing so no idea why suddenly stopped working

Ran update to 2.3.3 - same problem
update all my drivers - no change

Got this log:

I’m not a tech savy person; can anyone give me a clue as to what I need to do?

Cheers

Hope you get an answer unholymole.
Just tried recording on mine again and I’m pleased to say it’s working fine. I didn’t need to do anything. ???
Will keep an eye on this thread just in case it plays up later.
