** sorry the topic is to long for the subject**
I am using windows 8 and I can not record mono (one track) when using speaker out put as input. (Windows WASAP).
*Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate. (fixed by recording stereo; two tracks)
What player application is sending mono output, and what output and input devices have you chosen in Device Toolbar ?
Or do you mean the output is stereo and you want to record it in mono? I can do that on my Windows 7 x64 machine using the built in IDT audio device and Windows WASAPI loopback.
If you want to make the stereo recording mono, choose Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono.
The output of my computer is stereo and I wanted to record it in mono using Windows WASAPI loopback. This is when I got the error message as described in the first post.
I did know that I could make the track mono in post editing but I wanted to skip a step.
Thank you for helping and I hope that by posting this; I could help you in some little way.
** I do not know if this error occurs on windows 8.1
It doesn’t occur on Windows 8.1 for me, and I think it is a problem or limitation with your audio device rather than a Windows version issue.
What exactly happens when you ask for a mono recording of a stereo input depends on the sound device in any case. Built-in sound devices will tend to give you a mono mix. External or PCI devices will tend to only give you the left channel.
Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono will give you a mono mix.
