problem recording from tape player

I am trying to record from a tape player. The sound during recording sounds like it was recorded in slow motion. The captured audio sounds the same as well. Any ideas?

Windows? Which Audacity?

We assume you’re using the Line In of the sound card. What happens if you plug a microphone into the Mic In of the same card and record a bit of that?

If you play a song from a CD and then walk out and play the same song in your car, is the pitch the same?

I am using windows XP. I’ve tried both 1.2.6 and 1.3.4(Beta) with the same results. The capture device is the Dell Movie studio Wave device witch the tape player is connected. I do have a Creative Labs sound card I could try, but I don’t have the right cable.

I found the correct cable and was able to get it to working using the mic port on my Creative Labs sound card and 1.3.6(Beta) version. Still no dice with the Dell capture device.

So we’re done, right? Audacity isn’t broken and you have a bad Dell analog to digital converter in their sound device. I bet it works with the Creative and version 1.2.6, too.

Yeah, I think we are done. I can do what I need to do with the sound card and I will try it with 1.2.6. But I think you are correct that it will work. However, I’m not sure that the Dell device is bad. I was able to capture video and audio a couple of weeks ago using Dell Movie Maker software. If you want to try something with it let me know.
