Hi
I downloaded Audacity 2.0.5 - and made a project file. Then I saved it to desktop. When I went to open it again, it showed a box with the message: “Can’t open project file. This file was saved using Audacity 2.0.5. You are using Audacity 1.2.6. - you need to upgrade to a newer version to open this file.”
I do not know how to do this - please could someone help me. Thank you.
Did you used to have Audacity 1.2.6? Open Audacity and Help > About. Which version is it?

You seem to have both Audacity 1.2.6 and Audacity 2.0.5 installed.
I would suggest that you uninstall all versions of Audacity from your machine, then re-install Audacity 2.0.5 using the recommended installer from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows
So that you get a “clean” install, watch for the option during the installation to “Reset Peferences” and enable that option, On first run you will be prompted to say if you really want to reset preferences - say Yes.
