PROBLEM EXPORTING:
Using an ION tape 2PC with Windows7 I can record a 45 minute cassette tape onto Audacity. But when I export the file only a portion of it is actually transferred. Using Windows Explorer to locate and open the file is lists the size at about 1900 KB. I never noticed this before. When I open it on ITunes there is only 2 or 3 minutes of music. I’ve been using this software for some time with no problems. Now after months of use it’s developed this issue. I haven’t changed anything on the computer. I’m at a loss, I’ve tried everything I can think of, hopefully you can help.
Thanks Gale,
I am 100% sure I selected export and not selection. In the past I have used this feature (Selection) and it worked quite well but that was not the case this time. Hopefully you can solve this problem, as I want to continue transferring my tapes.
So how are you actually exporting? Export? Export Selection? Or Export Multiple (that is, are you exporting separate files for each section of the tape)?
If you are using Export Multiple and clicking at a point to add a label between sections, make sure you have not dragged a small selection in error - if you do that, only that small selection will export.
Also look at Help > About Audacity… and check you have the latest Audacity 2.0.6. Old versions of Audacity may have a bug that does not export the correct length in some cases. Visit Audacity ® | Download for Windows to obtain 2.0.6.
To export I’m using plain “export” not multiple and I haven’t used any labels. I’m making one file for 45 minutes of material. In the past there was no problem doing this. It must be something else! Also I have already downloaded the new ver: 2.0.6.
Assuming it is one Audacity track, Export exports the whole track whether there is a selection in the track or not.
If you using Export, I don’t know what you mean by “I have used this feature (Selection)”. If Export does not export the whole track, you’ll have to say exactly what you are doing, step by step. Exactly what format are you exporting to? WAV? MP3? If WAV, do you see a message in Audacity that the entire file could not be exported? Such a message would indicate you don’t have the disk space to export the complete file. If it’s other than WAV, there is no message - the file is made as long as the disk space you have.
Thank you so much. You just hit the nail on the head. The problem was not having enough storage space which I was never aware of. I save the files to an external drive which happened to be full. After I clean it up, I’m sure the problem will be rectified. What a relief.
