Please Help Soundcard/Mic Problems

Hi,
Could someone please help me i am having problems with my microphone i just bought… Its a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone and cost just under $100. I plugged it in and installed fine. But when i record audio (with any program) i get this constant hissing noise and like a slight bubbling noise in the background… It is connected to my HP Dv8000 Notebook and have tried moving around the house and disconnecting everything else from the notebook but no luck… i put the microphone in a draw where the is no noise and no chance of wind or anything… so all i can bring it down to is interference somewhere on the motherboard… or maybe the soundcard and it needs to be upgraded or something… if any of this sounds familiar or anyone has any suggestions please help. Cheers, Jason.

Don’t throw out the packing material.

USB microphones turn analog audio into digital right inside the microphone and aren’t subject to interference problems inside the computer. So if it is really a USB microphone, the computer is mostly out of the equation.

If you’re on a Windows machine, I would launch Windows Sound Recorder and see if the noise is still there.

Windows Sound Recorder
Start → Programs → Accessories → Entertainment

If you can try it on another computer that would be good. If it’s noisy there, too, then the microphone may be faulty and needs to go back.

Which model number is this microphone?

i HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A BUZZ, i TRIED THE SOUND TEST INTHE ENTERTAINMENT AND GET SAME NOISE ALSO 3 DIFFERENT QALITY PLUG IN (NOT usb) MICROPHONES

Check your leads - everything from the microphone through to the computer.
If you still have a problem, please start a new topic on the Windows/Mac/Linux board for the version of Audacity that you are using (1.2.x or 1.3.x) and describe exactly what your set-up is.
