Please help me make all my backing tracks to have even volume

Hello. I have about 40 backing tracks and I would like to make sure that all volume levels are even so that when we play live, we don’t have to struggle changing track volumes the whole night. Not sure if normalization or loudness normalization is the fix and how should I do it for 40 tracks. Thanks!

The latter. Maybe a macro to batch-process the 40 tracks.

Loudness Normalization is what you want BUT it doesn’t automatically check for clipping (distortion).

…Regular normalization “maximizes” the volume based on the peaks, but peak levels don’t correlate well with perceived loudness.

Other loudness matching options are:
MP3Gain
WaveGain

Or some player software supports ReplayGain, or with Apple you can turn-on
Apple Sound Check.

(I use ReplayGain on Winamp and Sound Check on my antique iPod.)

All of the above check for clipping, and by default they won’t boost the peaks into clipping (which means that some songs may still be a little quieter than the target level).

I probably don’t understand the question, so explain further if needed.

Wouldn’t you do that with a mixer before the performance, rather than with Audacity?
