When I record a cassette tape the play back has a repetitive chopping sound in the background at about the frequency of a helicopter (bupbupbupbupbup]. If I listen to the tape using headphones on the USB cassette Capture unit the sound is not there. Any ideas? Thanks

If you zoom in to the blue wave do you see lots of little holes in the recording? If so the computer is too busy with other applications and services doing things. You could try increasing “Audio to buffer” in Recording Preferences.

If it is a fault in the USB cable you could try another cable.

If you have a desktop or expensive laptop that has a blue stereo Line In as well as microphone input, then you could connect from the headphones of the USB device to Line In, and change Audacity in Device Toolbar to record from Line In.
