I am running the lastest version of Audicity 3.4.2. I am recording cassette tapes to play on my computer. When I play them back there is distortion that shows up on the vocal tracks. I have not changed any of my fields. This problem seemed to be recent. Am running the signal through my soundblaster soundcard. Had the card replaced and the problem is still happening. Anyone got any ideas.
For starters, if you open one of your cassette recordings’ project file in Audacity and then click ‘View’ in the menu at the top. Then click next to ‘Show Clipping’ to make sure it’s ticked. After doing that, if you have lots of red areas, the recording levels were too high.
You don’t say whether you recorded them and played them back with the same version of Audacity or if you use something else to play the recordings with.

I am using the save version of Audicity. I will follow the info you have provided and get back to you. I just followed the info you provided and there is no clipping. No levels were in the red.
