Planning to get a certain USB mixer

Hi there,

I’m new to the Audacity forum in which I use a Windows 7 computer. I am rebuilding my home studio for voice-overs and I’m planning to get a Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer with USB. It has mic pre amps and compression which in theory would sound great.

Before I buy this mixer, I have to ask will this work with Audacity?

Any help will be most grateful.

Brian

Before I buy this mixer, I have to ask will this work with Audacity?

Yes! Audacity works with (almost) anything that has regular Windows drivers, or anything that works with the Microsoft-supplied drivers. (I’m pretty sure this mixer is plug-and-play with the Microsoft drivers already installed on your computer.)

Note that it is an 8-channel “mixer” and you’ll get the 2-channel stereo mix out of the USB port. It’s not an 8-channel audio interface so you can’t use it for multi-track recording. (And, Audacity doesn’t really work for multi-track recording either.)

Also FYI - Your choice of recording software doesn’t affect recording quality (assuming nothing goes terribly-wrong  ). The software simply “captures” the digital audio data coming from the drivers & operating system. However, if you apply effects every effect will sound different… Audacity’s reverb will sound different from everybody else’s reverb, etc.
