Hi,
I’ve been using Audacity for a little over three years now and have recently developed a problem.
I have the latest version and use Windows Vista.I record audiobooks and in the last few months
I have had clips of a few seconds appearing in a finished chapter. These only come from audio I have
in Audacity.I have lots of other audio, both books and music, elsewhere on my computer but these never
interfere.
For example,I can record maybe 20 minutes, edit it, convert it to mp3 and listen to it on my iPod.
Mostly that’s ok but occasionally there would be some white noise,a piece from a previously recorded chapter
would appear and then the recording would resume.
What happens more often is I would listen to the chapter on my ipod as above and everything would be fine.
The I would send the original file via dropbox and get word that the file has the stated problem.I then check the
original file on my computer and find the problem there now.
Until about three months ago or so everything was fine.It doesn’t happen everytime either.
Everything else that I use, mic, headphones etc haven’t been changed.I’ve checked for viruses and found none.
I have loads of memory available as I added to it 12 months ago.
I can’t think of anything else that would be helpful and I hope I’ve made the problem clear enough.
Has this happened to anyone else.

But you didn’t complete the loop. Does the MP3 on your iPod still sound OK?
When you describe your system, try to avoid adjectives. “I have the latest and the first and the best.” We usually need hard numbers. “I’m running Audacity 2.0.2.” How many is “loads” of memory?
Do you like to recycle filenames? Do you edit, filter, and effect the show and keep the same filename – keep overlaying the new show on top of the old one using the same name?
The one thing that bothers me in that whole description is the show where the MP3 and the posted WAV are different. That one I find very interesting.
Hi Koz,thanks for the speedy reply.
Specifically I’m running Audacity 2.0.2.
I have 3 G of memory with about half of it available.
The file on my ipod is still fine but if I export the now faulty file to mp3 and put it on
my ipod the problem is there.
I do overwrite files sometimes but usually I use new files for different stages.
Now that I think of it,the problem pieces always come form a different file than from the one I’m
working on,and seem to be random.
Are you recording while playing other tracks (Transport > Overdub is checked), and also append recording (SHIFT + R or hold SHIFT and click Record)? This can cause bits of audio from earlier in the recording to be re-recorded. It would not explain bits from other recordings getting into your work.
Do you have multiple Audacity projects open at a time?
