I sometimes drag music files onto an app project and they retain their correct names. If I copy any of them from one aup to another, they lose their individual names and default to the same name as the track they’ve been pasted into. Any ideas to get around this greatly appreciated.
The solution is to force Audacity to paste the audio into a new track.
Before you past the audio into the second project, press the return or enter key. This will remove “focus” from the currently-selected track.
Then Paste. A new track should be created with the correct name and the clip in that track should have the correct name. Now drag that clip to where you want it.
You could post an Enhancement Request here:Issues · audacity/audacity · GitHub
You’ll need to create a free Github account to post the request.
The request would be something like “Audio pasted between projects retains it’s clip name instead of inheriting the track name.”
This is a known and logged bug that has been fixed for the upcoming 3.6.2 release:
