Orphan block file' error

Hi all,

In some need of desperate help here, I have an audacity project that is giving me the “Project check of ‘example_data’ folder found 68 orphan block file(s). these files are unused by this project, but might belong to other projects. They are doing no harm and are small.”

I get no tracks when I choose any of the three options and we desperately need the audio for a coursework project. It is something that needs to be sent to an exam board ASAP. Is there any chance of recovering from this error at all?

Orphan block files are not required by the project, so are not the cause of having no tracks except in the specific case of very long recordings where you have thousands of AU files and they are all orphaned.

Please attach the AUP file and say how many tracks there should be and how long each track should be (roughly).

If this is an unedited recording you can recover it without the AUP file by following: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Crash_Recovery#Automatic_recovery_tools .

If you have been editing the project it is not likely to recover properly using the above methods.

Thanks for the advice, It was only a one track recording which is no longer than around 15 minutes. Please find attached the relevant AUP file.

I will also look into the link provided as it is unedited also. Will let you know if I have any luck.

Did Audacity or the computer crash, or did the computer lose power?

For whatever reason, the AUP file contains no reference to any AU files - it is just an empty project with no tracks.

So I would assume the AU files that Audacity sees as “orphans” are the recording that you need - they are “orphans” only because the AUP file is empty.

Good luck with trying to recover the recording in the correct order. Let us know if you need any help.
