So I’m using Audacity 2.0.5 on Windows 8.1 and my colleague e-mailed me an .aup file that I can’t open. Every time I try, it tells me “Couldn’t find the project data folder” and after I click OK it says “Could not load file.” Please help!
AUP is a text file that tells Audacity what to do with all that stuff in the _DATA folder. That’s where the show is. They need to send that, too. Put the AUP file and the _DATA folder in the same location or folder and double click the AUP file.
If it was a long show, it may not fit in an email system. You may need to investigate file posting services or physical media like shipping USB sicks around.

I’d avoid “sharing” an AUP project unless you’ve got a very good reason. I’d ask for an audio file (WAV, MP3, etc.). Assuming you are doing editing & production, I recommend you avoid lossy compression (MP3, AAC, etc.).
FLAC is lossless compression that will give you a file about half the size of the uncompressed original. But as Koz says, the file (or complete AUP project with the data files) may be too large to e-mail (even an MP3 may be too large to e-mail).
OK, it works now. Thanks for the help!
