opening audio from USB

I am working on a sound recording project on someones laptop, so am transferring the files to my computer for mixing.
It is a single audio file, and have been using the process of SAVE AS> Then saving to the usb.
However, I cannot seem to open the project on my computer as a whole project, instead having lists of pieces of audio file opening instead, which is coming out garbled.
Can anyone talk me through the process of retrieving the intact sound file?

Open the AUP file, not the AU files in the project _data folder: Audacity Manual .

Also if the project had imported WAV or AIFF files when it was on someone else’s laptop, use File > Check Dependencies… to ensure Audacity has a copy of those files. If dependent files are listed, copy them into the project then save and close the project before transferring it to another computer. See Audacity Manual .
