Older versions of Audacity now wont work on my imac 2019 despite using an old version of Audacity

Hi all

I run Audacity on my mac book pro, its version 3.2.3 and on my external storage I have older projects that this version opens and it then (when I save it) converts them to .aup3 files. However, since upgrading my iMac (its now a 2019 running Ventura,) I downloaded the latest version of Audacity on that machine (3.6.whathaveyou) and it 1) would not open the old projects with the separate data files and 2) when it opened the .aup3 ones that were made with 3.2.3, it said “cannot find wave replacing with silence” and did just that … ok I thought so I deleted that version of Audacity and installed the 3.2.3 on the imac and that still does the same thing for both sets. Can someone help at all please? I would just like to instal 3.2.3 again and have it work as I have hundreds of projects that cannot be got on the imac. Is there a proper way to “uninstal” so that I can start again? or is there someting Im not doing right? Thank you in advanced for any help

In the Finder, click on the Go menu and select Go to folder.

In the dialog, enter ~/Library/Application Support/audacity.

From the audacity folder, trash audacity.cfg.

Is that an Intel iMac? If so, try downloading the Intel installer from here. Scroll down to x86_64 dmg (Intel) .

FWIW I have no problem opening old AUP projects (with the _data folder) in Audacity 3.6.4. This is on a 2019 iMac with an Intel Core i5 running macOS 15.0.
