Old/new topic - Audacity is already running

[1] I have searched the depth of the internet for answers and found stuff for Apples…I am on a PC Windows 10. I used Audacity earlier this week with no issues…but I also install the updates when urged. Tonight another update came…failed and then "the system has detected another copy of Audacity running…"Friday evening I got the above error. I can’t find another copy…?

[2] If I uninstall Audacity from my desktop, do I lose my files saved on my computer. Silly question, but I have to ask. I’m capable but sadly lacking in some skills.

Any answers, please be as specific as you can, please. Thank you.

Nobody urges anyone. It is just a notification which you can follow or ignore.

A running application cannot be replaced. Just quit Audacity and then install the update.

No. The settings are stored independently from the application.

Thank you for the info about the files. As to the error in question, it seems to have resolved on it’s own. I’ve bee pretty sick since I posted and today, the app opened with no issues. I think the newest version of the app is super sensitive/glitchy. Thank you.
