Hello, no reference to Nyquist plugins int the Manual of 3.7.6 even if the page exists.
What is the future of Nyquist (LISP and SAL), they are extremely valuable for audio
programming courses. Thanks.
The main front page of the Manual has this
Which links to this page
Which in turn links to Muse’s Support site
Peter
Yes, I knew, but maybe that could be in the index ?
Sadly not really worth it as the manual is due to be EOL deprecated when Audacity 4 gets released.
Audacity 3.7.x is that last series to have the Manual, for AU4 onwards Muse intend to replace it entirely with their support site.
Peter.
Nyquist is going to stay supported likely through the entirety of Audacity 4.x. Following that, the future is rather uncertain – xlisp isn’t exactly a popular programming language anymore. It is probable it’ll get replaced by something more current, e.g. a Javascript or Python environment.
Independently of Audacity, the standalone Nyquist programming language is probably staying maintained for as long as Roger Dannenberg keeps maintaining it.
XLISP may not be popular and is for DSP experts only, but the teaching can so easily be done in SAL which is even less syntactic than Python. Scheme is also a good candidate for scripting (as in GIMP, which is the “audacity” of pictures)…
