Hi Everyone, I’m totally new to audacity and I’m struggling. I’ve been trying to set up my turntable to record vinyls to audacity and after a lot of trial and error, finally got the system to begin recording. However, I must have clicked on a wrong button or buttons and now it won’t record at all. Don’t know whether I’ve selected the wrong options in audacity or in my windows settings. Any suggestions please?
Many thanks
Make sure you’ve selected the correct Recording Device. (Don’t select anything that says “loopback”).
If you think that’s correct or that doesn’t help, please tell us about your hardware and how you are connected. Do you you have a USB turntable? Or, do you have have an analog connection into a regular soundcard? Etc.?
Hi DVDdoug,
Thank you for your response - much appreciated. All 3 of the recording device options have “loopback” in the title so I don’t know where to go with this. The only connection I have is a a Lenco L-3808 USB turntable connected to a USB port on my computer.
FIY - Loopback is for
Do you see something that says “USB…” as a recording device? The USB audio device will act as your soundcard for recording-input purposes, but you can still use your regular soundcard as your “playback” device for monitoring while recording.
FYI - Loopback records the sound coming out of your soundcard or other playback device, rather than a normal audio input. It’s normally for recording streaming audio (when there is no analog or digital input connection).
For troubleshooting, Try Listen To This Device. It should allow you to listen to the USB device (or other audio input) without Audacity or any application, to make sure Windows is getting a signal.
…If that works you MIGHT be able to use loopback to record that sound coming out of your soundcard, but that’s usually not the best way.
Hi,
Thanks very much for your help. I’ve managed to sort it out, getting all the right settings in both Audacity and Windows and now successfully recording and exporting my vinyls.
Thank you so much for the link, It helped me.

Hi! It sounds like you might need to check a few settings. First, make sure your turntable is selected as the input device in Audacity. Go to Preferences > Devices and confirm the correct input source. Also, ensure the track you want to record on is armed (click the red circle). If those settings are correct, check your input volume levels in Audacity and ensure they aren’t muted or set too low. Additionally, verify your turntable is properly configured in Windows’ Sound Settings. I had too many assignments and not enough time, so I decided to use academized.com/buy-research-paper The research paper I received was detailed, well-written, and delivered on time. It took a lot of stress off my shoulders, and I was really impressed with the quality of the work. If you’re a student like me who needs help with research papers, I highly recommend this service. It’s reliable and delivers great results.
