My situation is quite simple to explain. When I choose to save (as) or export (as any format) nothing happens. No dialogue appears. I tried a new project, reinstalling Audacity, removing all preference files, to no avail.
It seems to be a problem with the file dialogue. When I go into the Audacity preferences and then to directories and then click one of the “browse…” buttons, a grey screen opens where the file dialogue should be but it stays completely empty and I have to force quit out of Audacity.
Yesterday I didn’t have this problem, and updating to the latest version did not solve it.
The options in your screenshot are not greyed out in my case. I click them, the menu closes and when you expect the file dialogue nothing happens, absolutely nothing. Like I said in my post I use a MacBook Air M1 16GB 512GB running the latest version of macOS.
I occasionally do backups to my NAS, would that make a difference?
I don’t know. I do know that pursuing a problem with single-minded, linear determination isn’t desirable. “Scatter-shotting” sometimes reveals helpful tidbits as does pattern recognition. It is desirable, in the instance of the forum, to flesh out the personality and environment of the poster.
I’m pretty sure this is an actual bug
So far we have a very puzzling anomaly on one machine. A bug happens to multiple different users on multiple different machines. That doesn’t mean it’s not. It just means chances are very slim.
updating to the latest version did not solve it.
What were the before and after releases by number?
Yesterday I didn’t have this problem
I know this question is dead obvious, but what could possibly have happened between then and now? Did your Mac do an update? When did you do the last Mac System Update?
