I have Audacity 2.3.1 on Windows 7 x64.
I don’t work with project, but use Audacity for extract and adjust audio in video file.
When I export audio, Audacity ask me for saving project and I have to answer “no” every time.
Is it possibile to set, in the preferences, not ask for saving project?
Thank you from Italy…
Audacity is a Project or show editor not a WAV editor. It considers your work a failure if you don’t save a Project.
Nobody likes the way this works. Other programs think everything is OK if you save anything and only warn if you save nothing.
I think there is one condition that works as expected. If you open a production to just listen to it and then close, you don’t get the warning. But any change will trigger the warning.

Most DAWs require that you save the project before you can do anything.
