Not Recording on new track after gernerating rhythm track

After I generate a rhythum (click) track I create a new track to record my guitar on. When I click record there is no movement and no recording. I still have to click the record but again to stop but there is no recording.

To record on a new track, (rather than append the click track),
you have to hold down the shift key, then click on record.

You can tick a box in preferences so that that Audacity always records on a new track, so you don’t have to press the shift key.
