not opening files + export issue

  1. Audacity stopped opening .aup files from the file → open route. I have to go to the file in Finder and do Open With.
  2. Same as #1 except for .mp3 files, too.
  3. Audacity stopped exporting to .mp3. It wants me to download LAME (?) which I can’t do because it’s a work computer. The About Audacity info says it already includes code from LAME. What’s up?

    2.3.0 + El Capitan

In the open file dialog, there is a dropdown menu below the list of files labelled “File type”. It should say “All files”.

Audacity is compiled with the LAME mp3 decoder for importing mp3 files. In order to export to an mp3 file you need the external LAME encoding library.

And in particular for the current released 2.3.0 version of Audacity you need the 32-bit library.

The new 64-bit libraries are only for the upcoming 2.3.1 version of Audacity which will be 64-bit.

Scroll down the download page to get to the 32-bit library.

I did the reset instructions posted elsewhere in the forum, and that took care of #1 and #2.

I’m on my work computer which has locks on many downloads, so I can’t download LAME. I ca live with exporting as .ogg for now until I get anew laptop.

Ogg is better than MP3 anyway
