Not able to hear playback on any exported files

I just started using the 1.2.6 Audacity product and even after downloading the LAME MP3 encoder, I cannot hear anything on exported MP3 or WAV format files…when I run the files on Windows Media Player, the equalizer shows something was recorded, but in neither case can I hear anything. When I burned a CD, it too had no sound. Speakers are on and I can hear what I am recording and hear the file playback in Audacity. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Download Audacity 1.3
Export as 16 bit WAV
That should play ok - let us know if it doesn’t.
