I just got Audacity and am trying to figure out how to get it started. The manual is hard to understand.
My rig: Shure 58 mic > Focusrite Clarett 8pre USB > MacBook Pro Monterey > Audacity 3.0.4
The inputs line on the screen says: Core Audio / Clarett 8pre USB/ 1 Mono recording channel / Clarett 8pre USB
When I hit the Record and Play buttons and use the mic, it doesn’t record. Flatline.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

The current version is 3.1.3 which I would recommend. You can download it from here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/mac/
Make sure you do Transport > Rescan Audio Devices after you plug in the Focusrite.
Thanks. Will do. I’ll let you know if I have any luck.
Mac: 12.2.1 / Audacity: 3.0.4 / Focusrite Clarett 8pre USB
No, no luck. I:
- connected the mic.
- turned on the interface.
- connected it.
- selected Rescan Audio Devices.
- hit the red Record button.
- got a flat waveform.
My screen looks like this:

Sometimes when I hit the Record button I get this message:

Suggestions?
Thanks!

Have you given Audacity permission to access the audio device? (See: Why do I get a flat line and no sound when I record on Mac?)
Thanks, Steve. It worked!
I did it once before, but maybe I’ll have to do it every time I open. We’ll see.
