noise removal

I have 2.0.5 (.exe installer) on a new Windows 8.1 laptop. I am having difficulty with noise removal and would like to know what I am doing wrong.

I am importing an audio wav file (voice recording); I highlight a small portion of background room noise only, click on get noise profile; Then Select all, then noise removal, ok. The noise removal removes the entire recording.

I have the following settings for step 2:
Noise reduction -48
sensitivity 0.00
Frequency smoothing 150
Attack/decay time 0.15

Noise - remove


I don’t have a lot of experience with audacity, but this used to work on my old laptop. Any suggestions?

Don’t use such an extreme removal setting. Use the Preview button to test alternative settings, light settings first, then become more extreme.

Try a very modest Noise Removal setting and increase “Sensitivity”. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html .
