Noise removal

Using Audacity 2.0.5 with Windows 7. Have imported from old LP. Recording is good: can even hear the needle scratching - which I want to remove! When I sample the noise, filter it, and apply it to the whole track, it filters EVERYTHING out and I end up with silence!. I can’t find an explanation in the manual to lead me to believe I’m doing anything wrong. Can you help? Whilst writing, many thanks for your extremely helpful responses in the past on other matters . Cheers. jt4music

You need to find a small sample of the LP - probably a bit of “silence” between songs to provide the first step of Noise Removal - and then select the whole recording and the apply the second pass of Noise Removal.

See this page in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html
