No Software playthrough

Want to record a cassette tape…I have been doing a LOT of this over the past couple years…
So far everything has worked very well…

All of a sudden Audacity 2.1.0 does not play sound UNLESS I am recording…
If I do not record… I hear no sound…

Also…when playing a cassette and plugged into the line in on the audio card…
Even if I do NOT have Audacity open…should I be able to hear sound…???

Hope I explained this ok…
Win 10 v1909

That’s an ancient version. The current version is Audacity 2.3.3 and it’s available via the Audacity website: Audacity ® | Download for Windows

That depends on the Windows Sound settings. If you select the “listen to this device” option for the sound card input, the Windows will route the input through to the output. If you are using that output, then you will hear what’s going into the input.

Steve…I got it…
I also downloaded the new version…
But both versions are now working…
Thanks…
