No recording level after trying everything (?)

MacbookPro OS Mojave 10.14.6
USB input from Audio-Tech 120XUSB Turntable
Apple Security/Privacy/Microphone/Audacity checked off
System Preferences/Input/USB Audio CODEC
Audio MIDI Setup/USB Audio CODEC/input is all grayed out in
(i.e., use this device options are grayed out!) even after Audacity preferences were matched to 16 bits
Play a record. It is heard thru my stereo amp, but not thru Audacity (Software Playthru is activated)
Audacity controls set to USB Audio CODEC, but Monitoring shows nothing (after clicking on or during record)

What am I missing???

Oops forgot to add I have the latest Audacity 2.3.3.

I found the answer. I made a DUMB mistake. The pre-amplifier select switch was on Phono instead of LINE. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. BUT in all the FAQ’s and software troubleshooting, nowhere did it say, “If your not getting an indication of sound in the recording software, check that the pre-amp switch is on LINE”. Oh well, what else did I have to do over the Thanksgiving vacation?
