I’ve been an on-and-off audacity user for years. I don’t do quite enough digital editing to use anything commercial, and Audacity has always been there with high quality and excellent functionality. Thank you!
Windows 10 latest ( 10.0.19587 ), Audacity 2.3.3, fairly recent model dell laptop (xps15) with Realtek hardware. Last working with Audacity August 2019.
I just picked up Audacity and tried to use it with a USB Guitar interface I’ve had lying around for years. The signal was a little low, but I finally got it recording - bars in Audacity - and wanted to hear what the actual sound quality was, so I unplugged the interface and hit good old play. Nothing. Checked the recording devices, the playback devices. Made sure the laptop properly plays with Windows Media Player and Google Play ( ie, Chrome ) all play fine. Can even record with the built-in realtek, nice fat signal strength, can save that file, play back with Media Player. Unistalled Audacity and reinstalled resetting preferences. Volume up and down. Changed project settings to 48k and 44k and back again. When recording and playing back, see meters as expected, just don’t hear anything, not getting errors, just don’t hear anything from the built-in speakers. Also tried headphones, just in case. Launched the ugly and bad RealTek software and it doesn’t show any errors, has the right devices selected.
I don’t think I’ve used Audacity for a while, maybe September '19 ( obviously not the same version ).
Thoughts? What else should I try?
