No audio upon export

Regardless of what file I try to export the Audacity project to I get no audio. I use these sounds for personalized greetings for my regulars in my streams. I am using Windows 10 and the audio is not coming through Groove music or Scorpbot this isn’t always the case, but it has been more prevalent lately I did allow clipping when amplifying as the original audio file showed that it was quite loud, but did not actually play loud enough to hear it over the music. If there’s any other information you need feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Is the music stereo? Do you have two blue waves?

Do you have audio (blue waves & sound) before you export? If so, do you see the waveforms when you re-import?

Exactly what happens when you export? Do you get a file? An apparently silent file?

and the audio is not coming through Groove music or Scorpbot this isn’t always the case,

Do you mean you can’t hear any files , or you’re only having problems with files you create?

Of course, that’s a different problem. It’s usually related to the “dynamics” of your recording. Your “natural” unprocessed recording has a few short-duration peaks that may not last long enough to sound loud. Most commercial recordings are dynamically compressed & limited to bring-up the overall-average loudness without boosting/clipping the peaks (Loudness War). Audacity does have compressor & limiter plug-ins, but you may not get the same “loudness” as a skilled professional gets without excessive distortion.

When you mix audio, the sounds are summed together. So if either the music or the talking is 0dB normalized, you’ll get clipping when you mix unless you reduce the volume, or compress/limit, or otherwise handle the increased levels. DJs, usually fade-down (or “duck”) the music if they are talking-over the music, or they talk-over the quieter fade-in or fade-out (if the particular song happens to fade-in or out).

FYI - Analog mixers are built-around a summing amplifier, and each input channel has a level/gain control and there is a master level control. Analog mixes are not (usually) limited to 0dB, since the signal level is a voltage and the voltage is limited only by the power supply used. (And, 0dB is defined differently in the electrical world and the digital world.)

It’s mono by default

It’s mono by default

That answers one question… sort-of… But, it’s not enough information for anyone to help you.

Yes I do have audio IN audacity when I re-import the file. I get a file and the file doesn’t play any audio, but it does have a time and will “play through” the file with no sound, on any other medium that I’ve tried IE groove music and Scorpbot

I’m only having problems with files I create with audacity.

Yeah sorry about the short response earlier, I was pretty drunk when I responded initially lol

I read that four times…

You make audio in Audacity and Export it as a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit file.

It won’t play anywhere else, but when you open it in a fresh Audacity, it plays just fine.

What part of that isn’t true?

And you are actually Exporting the sound file, right? Audacity saved Projects only open in Audacity.

Yes

Yep

none of it? O.o

And you are actually Exporting the sound file, right? Audacity saved > Projects > only open in Audacity.

I am aware that projects don’t play on other sources, you need to export as a file typically I go with wavs for the quality, this is a recent problem just FYI I haven’t always had this issue with Audacity

none of it? O.o

OK… Well… Shucks [puzzled cocker spaniel look].

I haven’t always had this issue with Audacity

It started just after I… what?.

The post makes me think everything used to work just fine. Then one failed out of a bunch. Then two or three failed out of a bunch. Now many if not most of them fail.

When was the last time you cold restarted your Win10? Shift-Shutdown. Then start.

What is your “D:” drive? Is it a network drive or USB drive?

It is my hard drive, my SSD is my C: drive

How much free space is there on the D: drive?

Where is Audacity’s “tmp” folder located? (look in “Edit > Preferences > Directories”)

132.4GB of free space on my SSD which is where the temp directory is

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Audacity\SessionData

Pretty sure that’s what you wanted to know, but just in case my D: drive has 269GB free

One possibility is that it looks like there could be intermittent problems accessing the D: drive.
Set Audacity to “Make copy of uncompressed audio files before editing (safer)” in “Edit > Preferences > Import / Export”, then do some tests with files on the C: drive. Do you get the problems when doing that?
