I am very new to Audacity and was trying to record from a cassette that was hooked up via USB. I was able to record, but I was not able to hear any audio while recording. I have a much longer recording I would like to convert from cassette, but would really like to hear as I am recording.
My only option in the output device is: Built-in Output.
I tried using speakers through my computer’s headset connection without success. Any suggestions or preference settings that I am missing?
Thanks,
Debbie
Audacity: 2.0.3 (obtained from .dmg)
MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8
Where does Audacity think it’s sending the sound?
Audacity > Preferences > Devices > Playback.
Mac System Preferences and Audacity Preferences can be different, and oddly, they both win. Audacity will use its own preferences and the rest of the computer will use the System one.
Audacity > Preferences > Recording > [X] Software Playthrough (select).
If you do that, Audacity will let you hear and see what you’re doing as you record.
Further, if you Control-Click on the Red recording meters and select [X] Monitor, the meters and speakers will let you hear what you’re doing before you start recording.
